Green in the Heights: water barrels

By Shawn - Posted on 06 May 2009

When we do start getting rain again, you could be ready with your very own water barrel. These plastic beauties hold 55 gallons (more or less) of perfectly free water. (UPDATE: Date/time changed to May 30th @ 9am)

If you're like me, you pay for your water twice. The first time you send your money to the water department, possibly on a threshhold plan where the price of water goes up the more you use. The second time you send the money to the sewer people because they assume some of that water goes back out of your home in one of their pipes. From a purely practical standpoint, you can save quite a bit of cash by capturing rainwater off your roof and using it to water your landscape.

But how, you may ask, do I get one of these new-fangled water barrels? Why just ask Robin at the Seminole Heights Community Gardens!
